Donald L. Cummings served as the intelligence officer and a tank company commander in the 1st Battalion 77th Armor during its deployment to South Vietnam in 1968. His extensive military career includes service in South Korea and West Germany and numerous assignments in the United States. He has worked as a senior analyst in the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Africa Branch, focusing on former French and Portuguese colonies and Ethiopia. After retiring from active duty, Cummings joined a major defense contractor and was an adjunct faculty member at George Mason University. He holds an MA and a PhD in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a BA from The Virginia Military Institute. His academic and professional experiences make him uniquely qualified to write about the 77th Armor Regiment.
